Karthik passed his social studies textbook over to her with the enthusiasm of a boy who's just found out that the cricket world cup final is scheduled the day before his computer science board exam. "Everyone wants to bat first", he grumbled. "What else is there to do in Book Cricket anyway?". Devi, meanwhile was furiously opening and closing the book, rapidly adding up the score like an accountant on the 31st of the month "4, 10, 11, 17, 23, 29, 33, 34, 35, 41, 42, 48, Aargh! Out just before 50! You need to get 49 to win".
"Finally, I get to do something", Karthik took the book from Devi and cracked his knuckles. He was taking guard, and asking for the sight screen to be adjusted. "KARTHIK! What are you doing?". Nalini Miss, who clearly felt she wasn't being paid enough to put up with this, voiced her disapproval. Karthik was suddenly no longer at Eden Gardens, and found himself sitting in a classroom, with everyone staring at him with the eager look of anticipation that everyone has when they know someone is getting in trouble, and it is not them. "Miss, it wasn't....", he turned to point a finger at Devi, to find her studiously writing in her notebook, with the seriousness of a woman who's just inherited a library and has to finish reading all of it. "Go to the Principal's office", Nalini Miss's voice faded as he walked back to the pavilion.
